Choose the right ticket before paying
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam lists €25 REGULAR ADULT admission, FREE entry for visitors younger than 18, and €16 student admission when enrolled at an educational institution in the EU/EEA (with proof). All these ordinary visitors MUST reserve an ONLINE DATE/TIME ticket in advance, including children and holders of free Museumkaart or ICOM entries. There is no ordinary ticket sale at the museum. The I AMSTERDAM CITY CARD has NOT included the Van Gogh Museum since June 2022. Admission already covers its permanent collection and current temporary exhibitions; an optional adult audio tour costs €3.75 in 2026 (changing to €4 from January 1, 2027). Only the official museum's identified direct checkout tickets.vangoghmuseum.com and listed approved resellers are safe; other vendors may offer invalid tickets.

How to book and use Van Gogh Museum original timed museum ticket checkout
- Check if you mean Van Gogh Museum, not Rijksmuseum
They share Amsterdam Museumplein district but different collections, ticket policies and operators.
- Use the museum's direct visitor site first
The official Tickets and Ticket Prices page links to tickets.vangoghmuseum.com as the original merchant.
- Choose adult, under-18 or eligible student honestly
The EU/EEA student rule is about the institution where you study, not simply owning any overseas student card.
- Add under-18 children even though €0
Every ordinary visitor needs a start-time e-ticket; a free person cannot simply join your reservation uncounted.
- Do not expect free access via I amsterdam City Card
The museum stopped participating in the city card programme June 1 2022.
- If holding Museumkaart reserve a timed zero-cost ticket
The pass must still be scanned at entry with the matching reservation.
- Select actual date and start time
Entry cannot be assumed from a generic undated screenshot or paid reseller receipt.
- Compare audio-guide purchase separately
The operator's adult guide is €3.75 in 2026, available in fourteen languages including Korean.
- Download electronic entry confirmation
Carry an original ticket and qualifying pass or age/student ID, in printed or smartphone form.
- Check bags and house rules before departure
The museum can restrict large objects and limits what can be carried among delicate art.
- Use official exhibition hours and the museum's entrance
Go to Van Gogh Museum on Museumplein, not another attraction branded around Vincent.
- Keep checkout proof and verify final merchant
The original museum identifies authorised resellers; don't buy simply because a search result has an advertisement.
Purchasing guidance, not real-time availability or admission guarantee. The actual provider's product-specific instructions take priority.
Do not assume a payment receipt alone is admission. The provider may separately issue QR tickets, wristbands, redemption vouchers or a mandatory visit-day reservation.

€25 includes exhibitions, not a promise of a guided visit
The Van Gogh Museum's official current admission catalogue lists €25 for adults and explicitly includes both the permanent collection and current temporary exhibitions. It does not add an ordinary per-exhibition entry tax beyond this published ticket price.
A guided group tour or language-specific tour is a different product with its own guide and scheduling rights. Visitors who only want to see the works should compare the direct museum admission before paying a reseller offering a seemingly mandatory 'exhibition access' add-on.
Free children still need a calendar appointment
The museum states all visitors need an e-ticket with a start time, even people entering free because they are younger than eighteen or because they have a Museumkaart. Ordinary on-site walk-up tickets are not available.
Families often buy tickets for adults and omit children, assuming a guardian's QR grants the rest of the party entry. Reserve each child's own €0 slot and save the booking confirmation; a free admission rate is not the same as unlimited capacity.
The student price is not for every visiting student
The current official checkout shows €16 for students enrolled at an institution within the EU/EEA, upon presenting evidence. An international student from outside the EU studying at a non-EEA school cannot assume that carrying a student card alone earns the reduction.
Under-eighteen students already qualify for the age-based free category. Make ticket choices by the specific hierarchy of entitlements, not by selecting a €16 product automatically whenever anyone in the group attends college.
Why the I amsterdam City Card cannot save this museum charge
The original museum explicitly left I amsterdam City Card participation on June 1, 2022. Generic 'Amsterdam city pass includes all museums' lists, often written years ago, can therefore be materially wrong for someone planning a tight museum-day budget.
The Dutch Museumkaart is a different scheme and is included when the guest books a matching free start-time ticket. Likewise ICOM, qualifying local passes and certain other cards have genuine entitlements, but each card's holder needs proof and specific reservation steps.
Audio-tour pricing and language access
The museum advertises the audio tour for €3.75 per adult during 2026, rising to €4 from January 1, 2027. Ages 13–17 pay €2, and younger children have an available free audio option. These add-ons are not compulsory for entering galleries.
Fourteen spoken languages include Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Ukrainian, Turkish and Arabic. Confirm current collection arrangements at the downstairs Audio Desk; the online admission ticket alone does not automatically provide an audio device.
Recognise the actual seller before paying
The museum warns that scammers sell invalid Van Gogh entry tickets and points to tickets.vangoghmuseum.com or explicitly authorised channels such as GetYourGuide, Tiqets, Musement, Klook and Tours&Tickets. The fact that a marketplace can be genuine does not mean all offers have the same cancellation or add-on terms.
Some specific patron membership classes have direct museum access and do not use the usual prebooked time-slot flow. That exceptional rule cannot be extended to visitors with an ordinary prepaid card. This comparison uses current operator sources rather than self-reported attendance or promised commission.
