Choose the right ticket before paying
Prague Castle's 2026 published MAIN CIRCUIT admission is CZK 450 adult, CZK 300 qualifying reduced or CZK 950 family, including Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, St. Vitus Cathedral's visitor areas and Golden Lane. The exterior castle COMPLEX AND COURTYARDS are generally accessible without this paid circuit, 06:00–22:00 daily, but not every interior. A purchased Circuit ticket is valid over TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS, with one entry per included building. Serious 2026 exception: the OLD ROYAL PALACE will CLOSE OCTOBER 23–29, and on OCTOBER 28 the whole castle area closes to the public from 15:00 (last visitor-facility entry 14:30). On October 16 and 17 St. Vitus Cathedral starts visitor access only 12:00 and 13:00 respectively. These are explicit Prague Castle administration notices—check official hrad.cz/current-closures before booking, not just a tourist pass snippet.

How to book and use Prague Castle Administration original circuit-ticket information
- Find the official castle, not a lookalike ticket guide
The Czech presidency's heritage administration publishes information at hrad.cz; independent reseller price tables may omit closures.
- Decide public courtyards versus paid interiors
Castle grounds generally open free, while full St. Vitus, Old Royal Palace, Basilica and Golden Lane rooms need the Main Circuit.
- Choose CZK450 Main Circuit if the full classic interiors matter
A CZK300 Permanent Exhibitions product is not the same itinerary as the basic circuit.
- Check a family or youth discount with proof
The family class is up to two adults and one to five children below sixteen; other age brackets need a different tariff.
- Check major October exceptions FIRST
October23–29 Old Royal Palace closed, October28 full site closes at 15:00, and Oct16–17 Cathedral access starts late.
- Interpret two-day validity correctly
The ticket remains valid for two consecutive days, but each included building may be entered only once.
- Read actual merchant channel details
The castle sells at Courtyard II/III information centres and lists online Main Circuit through authorised partners; no exclusive third-party 'skip all gates' is compulsory.
- Keep payment/QR and eligible age proof
The operator's tickets are generally non-refundable, with actual approved sales conditions.
- Plan the cathedral separately from courtyard opening
Cathedral regular Sundays start noon; weekday and seasonal services can close or change the tourist entry.
- Budget time for separate South Tower
The Cathedral tower observation deck is a distinct CZK200 adult ticket, not included by seeing the church interior.
- Use the correct season's closing times
April–October interiors 09:00–17:00; November–March 09:00–16:00. Grounds usually open much later.
- Do not assume a state holiday permits entry
October28 state ceremony closes the site early despite a general 06:00–22:00 grounds listing.
Purchasing guidance, not real-time availability or admission guarantee. The actual provider's product-specific instructions take priority.
Do not assume a payment receipt alone is admission. The provider may separately issue QR tickets, wristbands, redemption vouchers or a mandatory visit-day reservation.

Why the castle seems both free and CZK450
Prague Castle is a large operational presidential and historical precinct rather than a single gated house. Its public courtyards and outside areas are generally free to enter during 06:00–22:00 grounds hours, so a person can enjoy exterior architecture without buying Main Circuit admission.
The ticketed CZK450 adult Main Circuit instead grants entry into four significant building groups: the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, the designated St. Vitus Cathedral tourist section and Golden Lane with Daliborka. A free courtyard stroll is not an invitation to every historic royal interior.
How the two-day rule actually saves money
The government price list lists an adult CZK450, discount CZK300 and qualifying family CZK950 for the Main Circuit. It also says a ticket remains valid for two consecutive days and each attraction included may be entered ONCE during those two days.
A visitor who wants to photograph the square one afternoon and tour the Basilica the next day can spread out the included admissions, but cannot keep re-entering St. Vitus with the same barcode. Purchased tickets are generally nonrefundable under the authority's published terms.
The October23–29 Old Royal Palace closure is not a rumour
The administration's 2026 current-closures page explicitly states that the Old Royal Palace will be closed October23–29 for technical and state-ceremonial purposes. It is ordinarily included in Main Circuit, so a visitor booking those dates should understand an included part will not be visitable.
The main circuit tariff still appears elsewhere on city tourism sites that omit the closure. Do not assume a full set of rooms is guaranteed when a presidential event or conservation activity is announced. Read hrad.cz before buying; if that Palace is your highlight, select another date.
October28 turns the free courtyard into a closed zone
Prague Castle's own notice states that on Wednesday October28, 2026, the ENTIRE castle area, including gardens and visitor facilities, closes from 15:00. Tickets stop selling 14:00 and last admission to open facilities is 14:30. Royal Gardens and Stag Moat remain closed all day.
This is much more severe than the standard 'courtyards to 22:00' rule. A tourist arriving for sunset photos at 18:00 on that state-ceremony day could find the precinct closed entirely, despite a third-party ordinary-hours widget saying otherwise.
Cathedral access follows religious services and its own timetable
Normal April–October St. Vitus Cathedral public visitor access is 09:00–17:00 Monday to Saturday but begins at 12:00 Sundays. There are specific service-related changes: October16 visitors start 12:00; October17 they start 13:00, each until 17:00 with last entry around 16:40.
Going to mass is different from using a paid tourist circuit to inspect chapel detail. The Cathedral's Great South Tower is also a separately priced observation attraction, rather than an included ticketed room by virtue of owning the basic Main Circuit.
Paid sights and 2026 dates without a travel-agency surcharge
The administration lists ticket information at visitor centres in Courtyards II and III; city tourism notes advance tickets for some products via Ticketportal. The Castle administration itself links a GetYourGuide channel for online Main Circuit bookings, but it does not require buying an unverified guided skip-line package.
Use the government-administered site to match the correct ticket and live closures. The quoted prices are current published official rates, not alleged inventory. This guide was compiled using primary October 2026 state and Prague visitor-office pages, without pretending an in-person visit or affiliate commission.
