Choose the right ticket before paying
The US National Park Service authorises only Statue City Cruises to ferry visitors to Liberty and Ellis Islands. General Admission gets you to the museums, NOT inside the pedestal or crown. Reserve Pedestal or Crown separately, in advance, if available; Crown requires 162 narrow stairs beyond the pedestal, photo ID and a check-in wristband process.

How to book and use NPS-authorised Statue City Cruises
- Check the ferry operator
Use Statue City Cruises from the NPS official information. Street hawkers at Battery Park may sell something different.
- Choose your departure port
Select Battery Park in New York or Liberty State Park in New Jersey; they are not interchangeable.
- Choose ticket access level
General Admission, limited Pedestal or Crown Reserve; check actual crown availability before planning around it.
- Check visitor suitability
Crown: 162 narrow stairs from pedestal, no elevator to crown, child height minimum, ID, and max 4 crown tickets per order.
- Choose passengers and security-queue entry time
The printed time is not a guaranteed ferry sailing time; allow more buffer for screening and weather.
- Review merchant total and buy
Check provider checkout and refund rules, rather than trusting a sightseeing cruise advertisement to include interior access.
- Keep confirmation and get crown wristbands where required
For Crown, adult holders present photo ID at the operator's relevant booth before boarding and collect required wristbands.
- Arrive for screening then board
Use the correct port's screening facility and give yourself enough time to visit both Liberty and Ellis Islands.
Purchasing guidance, not real-time availability or admission guarantee. The actual provider's product-specific instructions take priority.
Do not assume a payment receipt alone is admission. The provider may separately issue QR tickets, wristbands, redemption vouchers or a mandatory visit-day reservation.

NPS-authorised Statue City Cruises — inspect live ticketsBooking traps and better choices
Not every Statue boat reaches the island
The NPS explicitly names Statue City Cruises as the only authorised landing ferry and ticket supplier. A private harbour sightseeing cruise may produce good photos but cannot promise its passengers the museum access included in the official ferry ticket.
General Admission includes both Liberty and Ellis Islands plus the museums and audio information. It does not buy access to the statue interior; that is a deliberately separate reservation.
Crown has a real physical entry threshold
The Crown is reached by 162 narrow spiral steps from the pedestal, with no elevator. NPS recommends that visitors consider mobility, respiratory and other limitations; a child must meet the published height restriction and climb independently.
Crown reservations are limited and often unavailable at short notice. NPS currently limits each crown ticket order and requires wristbands and ID checks before boarding. A provider claiming to 'upgrade anyone at the gate' is suspect.
Your printed booking time is for security
Statue City Cruises says the time represents entry to the security-screening queue rather than the ferry departure or pedestal arrival. During busy periods screening plus boarding may take significant time.
A family taking a morning ferry should avoid a nonrefundable early-afternoon train. Selecting the right departure port reduces taxi and rail changes before the screening queue.
Official published prices versus inventory
The current operator's public FAQ gives examples around $26 for an adult General Admission and $26.30 for Pedestal/Crown, subject to product and taxes. These are not today's availability quotes.
A city sightseeing tour can cost much more because it bundles guiding, transport or another attraction. Only compare identical island entry and ticket upgrade products before declaring a third-party offer worse.
Where to collect specialised access
The NPS directs Crown ticket holders to official city or NJ ticket booths to collect required wristbands. Each applicable adult holder must present photo ID, unlike a normal phone-only tourist photo stop.
Carry a valid booking confirmation and check the official prohibited-item rules before the monument. Crown visitors may have to store bags and cannot necessarily take every item up the spiral stairs.
A safer family decision
For visitors who only want the view from Liberty Island and immigration history at Ellis Island, General Admission is a simpler experience. The pedestal provides an elevated view with less strenuous crown climbing.
The official national park sources were reviewed 14 October 2026. No live ticket stock, confirmed ferry sailing time or Waynote commission is asserted.
Short booking answers
Is a general ferry ticket also a crown pass?
No. You need a specifically named Crown Reserve booked in advance.
Is the reservation time my ferry departure?
No; operator defines it as permitted security-screening queue time.
Can visitors use a lift to the crown?
No elevator exists to crown level; narrow spiral stairs are required.
Can any New York sightseeing ferry land on Liberty Island?
NPS says Statue City Cruises is the sole authorised landing ferry.
