The new monument is at 大安港媽祖文化園區 (Da'an Harbor Mazu Cultural Park), No. 117, Zhongshan North Road, Da'an District, Taichung. The combined figure and white-dolphin base measure 53.6 m, but the Mazu stone figure itself is 30 m high. Taichung bus 666 began operating October 1 to connect Dajia railway-station area with the park. The special rooftop opening and nighttime lighting reported for October 2–4 were limited festival offers, not proven everyday services. Confirm the park's ordinary opening, fee and roof access directly before a special trip.
What is confirmed about the recent attention
Taichung's tourism bureau wrote on 21 September 2026 that the freshly uncovered Da'an Mazu sculpture had become a local social-media discussion topic and visitors were already taking photos around the unfinished precinct. This is an official observation of social interest, NOT audited Instagram views or verified 10x visitor growth. The October 3–4 ocean festival later opened the site formally, and the tourism authority added it as an operating public attraction.
What the trend data cannot prove: an individual video view count does not establish queue lengths, ticket inventory, total visitor numbers, or access to private filming locations.
Where to go, and when
Place: 大安港媽祖文化園區, 臺中市大安區中山北路117號, Taiwan 439
When: Daytime for outdoor statue photos, only after checking official gate and transport conditions
Official access: Monument unveiled and listed as public attraction; full building floors, rooftop and exact regular admission not independently confirmed
Useful for: Cultural architecture photographers, Mazu heritage visitors and families exploring Taichung's coastal side rather than central Taichung malls.
Transport, admission and paid alternatives
| Option | Cost | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Dajia railway station then bus 666 | Bus fare by actual category and distance | New single-loop left/right circulations began 1 Oct 2026; check the right stop and current city bus tracker. |
| Ride directly to Da'an Harbor Mazu Cultural Park | Actual taxi/rideshare quote | The coast is outside central Taichung; return trips may be scarce, so arrange a return plan. |
| Outdoor viewing / grounds | Check actual gate and any admission charge | Taiwan national visitor database says public access but flags fees without giving an amount; do not claim it costs zero. |
| Rooftop above the monument | Not verified for ordinary days | City officials explicitly described special roof access during the 3–4 Oct festival only. |
| 2026 opening Ocean Tourism Festival | Ended 3–4 Oct 2026 | Performances, temporary shuttle, evening lighting and pop-up markets are not ongoing promises. |
Taichung city tourism data currently marks this as public-facing but also flags that admission charges may apply without publishing a verifiable amount. Never state universally free or sell an invented roof-view ticket; licensed regional tours and transport might be compared if genuinely approved.
From a saved clip to the right location
- Pin the official traditional-Chinese destination
Navigate to 大安港媽祖文化園區, 中山北路117號, 大安區, not any shrine named Dajia Zhenlan Temple.
- Review the current city attraction listing
The government database says the park is operating and public-facing; inspect latest facility notices or phone ahead for interior opening and charges.
- Reach Dajia from your starting city
Do not assume this new coastal monument is a short walk from Taichung's main railway station; plan an actual railway or car connection.
- Use the newly opened 666 line carefully
Taichung Transport Bureau announced left and right circular services from 1 October, stopping at '媽祖園區'. Select direction using live bus times.
- Photograph without assuming rooftop admission
The city only advertised roof visits during the October 3–4 festival. Choose a public ground-level viewpoint unless current staff authorise more.
- Do not count on weekend festival lights in mid-October
City's special 17:30–22:00 lighting described 2–4 October only. A viral dusk image does not establish recurring night illumination.
- Plan the return before leaving the coast
Check 666 operating hours and last departures on the official Taichung city transport service; arrange taxi fallback for groups or young children.
What quick posts and headlines leave out
A social-media story with a real municipal source
On 21 September 2026 Taichung's official tourism website covered its newly unveiled Mazu statue and said the sculpture prompted substantial local social-media discussion before the full surrounding work was complete. It describes couples, families, tour coaches and motorcycle riders photographing the seafront landmark.
That city announcement is legitimate evidence for local buzz, but it provides no independently audited reach count or Google search spike. We therefore call this a newly discussed 2026 landmark rather than claiming it is the most viral attraction in Asia. Short-video reposts may also misidentify the location as the much better-known Dajia Zhenlan Temple.
53.6 metres is the entire construction, not the carved figure
The Taichung city transport announcement gives an overall height of 53.6 metres, comprising a 30-metre Mazu stone sculpture and a 23.6-metre white-dolphin base. Promotional posts that say the figure alone is 53.6 metres conflate the two parts.
The landmark is located in Da'an on Taichung's west-facing coast, separate from downtown Taichung and the temple precincts around Dajia station. If you book accommodation in central Taichung, the longer last-mile journey may dominate the itinerary more than a quick photo stop.
The new public bus 666 is the most useful practical change
On 30 September the city announced new bus 666, beginning 1 October 2026. It loops from Dajia area's Wenwu Park through Dajia post office and the Mazu Park stop, Da'an Coastal Park, government offices and Dajia Railway Station, with clockwise and counterclockwise routes.
A diagram copied from the festival's one-off free shuttle is unsuitable for weekday travel after 4 October. Use the city's official real-time bus website and confirm whether you have selected left-loop or right-loop service. Tourist visitors should pay the actual published fare for their ticket medium, not claim a special Taichung-resident rebate universally applies.
October's inaugural festival is now historical, not a standing show
The Taichung Ocean Tourism Festival and statue ceremony ran 3–4 October 2026. The city arranged drumming, theatre, music, markets, limited rooftop access and additional shuttle measures for those dates. A later city release says special monument lighting ran 2–4 October from 17:30 to 22:00.
As of this 15 October guide, those performances and the weekend-only shuttle are already over. Do not promise a visitor can still buy a ticket to them. Check the new regular schedule rather than treating a reel from the first weekend as a permanent tourist offer.
Be precise about admission and roof access
The Taiwan Tourism Administration's official attraction data, updated 1 October 2026, marks the Da'an Harbor Mazu Park operating, open to the public, and possibly subject to admission fees, but provides no posted tariff in the captured listing. That is not proof of a charged gate today nor proof of free entry.
For a family travelling specifically to enter the interior or roof, call the tourism authority contact or park operator before departure. Public-facing outdoor photos from a lawful area and full interior building admission are separate questions. Accessibility, lifts, stairways and opening times need same-day verification.
A more robust coastal-day alternative
If you want more than one photo, use a day trip built around the Da'an coastal district, existing seafront public leisure areas and Dajia town rather than a plan that depends on unconfirmed roof access. Save the actual bus stop name in Traditional Chinese on your phone.
The Mazu figure is a living cultural and religious symbol, not merely a prop for social footage. Respect visitor rules, prayer activity and people being photographed. Travel advice and official source statuses checked 15 October 2026; we did not visit or purchase admission.
